"Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail"

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Bergenfield Public Schools are implementing an automated telephone notification system called SWIFT 911 to be used in the event of school closings, emergencies, or special messaging. The SWIFT 911 system will automatically call all listed telephone numbers within our Bergenfield School Community and deliver a recorded message. If phone lines are busy, the system will attempt to redial those numbers a predetermined number of times to make contact. If an answering machine picks up the call, the emergency message will be left on the machine.

As with any system, the Swift 911 system has its limitations. These can be minimized with diligent administration of the system, but they will always exist to some degree. We ran a test of the system on Friday, January 4th at 11:30 a.m. All parents and staff should have received a message from the District stating we were testing our new telephone notification system. If you did not receive the test telephone call from the Bergenfield School District, please notify our Technology Department by phone (201) 385-7180 or email them at jmurphy@bergenfield.org.

We are committed to increasing communication between home and school. We would appreciate your input into this new initiative as it will be a great asset in helping the school district provide parents with up to date and relevant information. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this test may have caused. We look forward to your input and will re-test the system on Friday, January 11th.

Again, if you did not get a TEST PHONE CALL from the Bergenfield School District on Friday, January 4th at 11:30 a.m; or if you had any other problems with this test, please call our Technology Department at (201) 385-7180 or email at jmurphy@bergenfield.org.

Thank you for your anticipated understanding and cooperation in this new initiative.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael D. Kuchar
Superintendent of Schools
