During the summer all students entering Grade 5 should read 20-30 minutes every day.

Dear Families:

A major goal of our schools is the promotion of reading as a lifelong pleasure. You can help your child avoid "summer reading loss" by setting aside the time for daily reading. Use this summer reading list to make selections or feel free to select other books from the websites referenced below.

Students are encouraged to complete a summer reading activity for each book they read. After reading a book, your child should complete the attached activity sheet. Copies of the form can be made by duplication or drawing. The Bergenfield Public Library, as well as www.bergenfield.org, will have a copy of the list and activity sheet on file.

Certificates will be awarded based upon the number of activity sheets completed. All completed forms should be given to your child's new teacher in September. Certificates will be awarded by the Reading Specialist.

* SUPERIOR READER AWARD - Completion of 5 or more activity sheets.
* STRONG READER AWARD - Completeion of 3 or 4 activity sheets.
* SATISFACTORY READER AWARD - Completion of 1 or 2 activity sheets.

Websites: We thank you in advance for encouraging your child's participation in this voluntary program.

Sincerely,

The Elementary School Reading Staff
